Wat maakte Margaret Thatcher zo succesvol, maar tegelijkertijd zo omstreden? Na vertoning van The Iron Lady gaat Harm Kaal, universitair docent Politieke geschiedenis aan de RU Nijmegen, in op de stijl en beeldvorming van deze keiharde politica.
Als ‘Grootste Brit aller …tijden’ haalde voormalig Brits premier Margaret Thatcher slechts een zestiende plaats, maar als ‘Ergste Brit aller tijden’ schopte zij het met gemak tot in de top drie. Al dan niet geliefd, haar invloed op de Britse politiek kan niet ontkend worden. Zo wist zij door daadkrachtig in te grijpen het land uit een grote economische crisis te halen.
In The Iron Lady speelt actrice Meryl Streep de controversiële Margaret Thatcher. Regisseur Phyllida Lloyd laat een realistisch beeld zien van een keiharde politica, haar belangrijkste wapenfeiten, haar moeilijke positie als vrouw in een mannenwereld, haar lust naar macht en de prijs die zij daarvoor moest betalen.

G.A.G. has the solution! W…e organise a thesis afternoon that will hopefully answer all your questions. Five former thesis-writers will drop by to tell you something about their experiences, subjects, and troubles. Pieter de Haan (linguistics) and Usha Wilbers (literature) will introduce our afternoon by explaining a bit about theses. Both linguistic and literature theses will be discussed, and we also offer both bachelor and master theses.
There will be tea, cookies, and the opportunity to ask questions, so there is absolutely no reason not to come!
